Grau – Fake Hero Illustration depicts two teenagers cycling past the statue of the bandeirante Anhanguera, tossed into a dumpster. The statue, currently on display at the main intersection of the city of Goiânia, is at the center of a debate over the glorification of controversial figures and slave-owning characters from Brazil's colonial history. In this work, I carried out an imaginative exercise of removing the statue and consigning it to the rubble.

The piece is currently part of the exhibition Passados Imaginados at the Museu do Ipiranga (São Paulo) and offers a counterpoint to traditional depictions of the bandeirantes and their history of glories and conquests.
